DOUBLE-EDGED Sword of social media and technology

Let's use all of it to an advantage - the positive side of the double-edged sword:  "DID YOU KNOW 3.0?      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmwwrGV_aiE

  1. What do you think when you see these kinds of statistics regarding online, digital, social media technology? Does it make you feel old? excited? overwhelmed? ambitious? wondering if it's all really happening? Do you become practical and think 'What can I do with all of this?'"

  2. The video is overwhelming, but I think we have to look at these statistics and keep in mind that we do not have to keep up completely. This giant transfer of knowledge has been created by billions of people working within the structure of the web. The beauty of the platform is that doing your part adds to this transfer of knowledge and it is not our job to know everything...just something...

  3. This video makes me think lots of things, but one is that I'm interested in the research behind some of these facts, and the one that really interests me is this "the top 10 in demand jobs in 2010 did not exist in 2004". I've heard this claim a few times, and I've always wondered what those jobs were. This article explains this "fact": http://www.rila.org/news/newsletters/assetprotection/april2009/Pages/FactorFictionMaintainingCredibility.aspx.
Essentially, in 2004, the Secretary of Education speculated that the most in-demand jobs in 2010 probably didn't exist at the time. As it turns out, the top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010 were pretty standard (nurses, surgeons, etc.) but did include computer engineers. Just thought this was interesting.
